A friend of mine sent this to me by email and I thought it was well worth posting for everyone to read. This seems to be the most effective way to exercise.

You warm up by relaxed pedaling for three minutes and then increase the intensity and pedal and as hard and fast as you can for 30 seconds . You simply have to push it very hard, to your maximum level of exertion.

If you are able to pedal at the high intensity for another 5 or 10 seconds than you did not pedal hard or fast enough, and you need to increase the intensity and/or speed.

After your 30-second workout, you pedal at a comfortable, relaxed pace for 90 seconds to recover, then you repeat this 7 times for a total of 8 cycles. If you are doing it correctly you will be sweating profusely, and it just might be one of the best workouts of your life.

The beauty of this approach is that it only requires you to exercise intensely for FOUR minutes and takes only 20 minutes of your time. If you do it properly I can assure you that it will improve your health far more than HOURS of regular cardio.

There is a tiny little dark purple berry called the Maqui berry found deep in the jungles of the Patagonia region of Chile and Argentina where the climate is harsh and not many can survive there.

This region of Patagonia has the reputation of being one of the cleanest places on earth. Here these forests protect the Maqui berries from diseases, sun irradiation, and biological enemies, which makes the conditions ideal for growing.

The local Mapuche Indians have been using this powerful little fruit for centuries for its many medicinal purposes and only recently has the rest of the world discovered the Maqui berry. After much research, these berries are found it to be jammed packed with incredibly powerful benefits to the human body. They are now reputed to contain the most potent combination of nutrients that the world has ever seen.

You don’t hear about the Maqui berry like you hear about the acai berry, but that is sure to change because the level of anthocyanins and polyphenols antioxidants is so high in the Maqui they out stage the other berries and can do amazing things for your health.

The Mapuche Indians have revered this little fruit for its virtues of giving strength, health and vitality. They believe it to have mystical healing powers and use it as a staple in their diet believing it to support stamina, increase strength, and promote a healthy immune system. These Indian tribes are known to consistently have one of the longest life spans of any ethnic group alive on the earth today. There’s got to be something to this tiny purple beauty.

There are some supplements that can greatly help to balance the pH levels in our body.

Calcium and Magnesium are both minerals that are alkaline and are important contributions to keeping our systems well balanced.

Also Alkalinizing Powders specially formulated to maintain pH balance and can be a real help if you tend to consume too few fruits and vegetables. These powders are made from whole foods and herbs that encourage the body to release acid salts and heavy metals, and they are usually lightly flavored with vanilla so they can be mixed with pure neutral water.

Many green supplements are offered out there on the market that are highly alkaline and really do a great job at maintaining the pH balance. These are especially helpful if you are unable to eat leafy greens like spinach and romaine every day.

We all know and understand that our metabolism is increased by movement, mostly in the form of exercise.

The chemistry of these human bodies is positively affected by activity of the muscles. And that’s why we are becoming exercise addicts. However, this is good because it is important for the body to burn fatty acids as well as other acids, which happens when we exercise. And this is one way we maintain a healthy body.

Now, we can overdo it with too much or too intense activity and that can cause a build-up of lactic acid and other acids in the muscles. How many of us have experienced sore muscles after of day of intensive exercise? It’s because of this acid build up in our muscles.

It is suggested to take a day off between heavier workouts. This gives the muscles a chance to clear out the acid to avoid the negative effects of a workout that’s very intense. Another cure for this soreness is to drink an alkalinizing powder drink on a daily basis.

Do you know how to reduce your risk of getting one of the chronic diseases that older Americans will often get and are responsible for the majority of deaths in our country such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, and cancer?

There are four ways researchers suggest will help lower our risks of getting these diseases and at the same time, improve our health, maintain these human bodies we live in, and enjoy a better lifestyle.

By seriously considering (“Seriously” means actually incorporating them into our lifestyles) these four suggestions from the medical field can be important factors for developing and maintaining optimal health that can lengthen our days.

The first is to maintain a low body mass index because by maintaining a low body mass index, we can greatly reduce our risk of getting one of the diseases mentioned above. This has already been proven to be an important key responsible for helping to avoid what could be an unnecessary early death.

Not smoking is next in line of importance for avoiding the risks of getting one of these diseases. If you smoke now, what ever you can do to quit, will greatly enhance your chances of living a healthier longer life.

Third on the list is exercise. How important can exercise be? It seems to be key for keeping us physically well. We all know exercise burns fat, which helps keep our weight down and It increases good circulation for the cardiovascular system giving us a healthier heart. Exercise helps keep us mentally sharp, alert, improves our sense of well being and keeps us mobile. We definitely enjoy life more when we exercise regularly.

Last but not at all least, is to maintain a healthy diet. If you really think about it, maintaining a healthy diet is paramount and works together with the other three previous suggestions. Eating properly helps keep our weight down and therefore is a major factor in maintaining a low body mass index. Eating a healthy diet builds up the cells in our bodies and keeps our immune systems more prepared to fight off sickness disease. Smoking has the opposite effect.

I believe it all starts with a healthy nutritious diet to maintain our human bodies at optimal levels that enable us to live long, healthy, purposefully active lives.

Hey there, enough is enough…enough of what? Enough processed and fast foods! “OH NO”, you say, I LOVE my big Macs and Chick Fil-A’s and lunch meats. After all, it’s meat and chicken isn’t it…protein? And, that’s OK for you, isn’t it?

Well, last I heard, researchers are saying, “stay away” from these kinds of food and eat lots of vegetables, fruits and nuts instead. Down the road as you age, you’ll be glad you did. Why? Fruits, vegetables and nuts actually help to prevent or reverse harmful metabolic processes in your body. That translated means they help to guard the human body from diseases.

Plant-based foods have an ingredient called phytochemicals which are what provide the better health for our physical bodies, including helping to keep us thinner. That in itself is good news and reason to change our diet from our old way of eating.

Someone once told me they eat junk food because it’s cheaper. Well, guess what…no way, that’s just an excuse so he/she can remain a child. They will pay down the road and it will be much more expensive for their medical bills!

As a matter of fact, overweight and obese people tend to eat fewer vegetables, fruit and nuts and instead consume far more saturated fats. They don’t give their bodies the advantages of protective trace minerals and phytochemicals found in natural foods to aid in warding off physical diseases and other problems.

Eating less plant-based foods causes higher levels of oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. This on top of being obese or overweight can and will produce physical problems in due time.
Research has found that oxidative stress and inflammation in our bodies are definitely associated with the onset of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and joint disease.

“Diets low in plant-based foods affect health over the course of a long period of time,” Dr. Vincent, a researcher in FL. explained in a statement to the press. “This is related to annual weight gain, inflammation and oxidative stress. Those are the onset processes of disease that debilitate people later in life.”

“People who are obese need more fruits, vegetables, legumes and wholesome unrefined grains,” Vincent said. “In comparison to a normal-weight person, an obese person is always going to be behind the eight ball because there are so many adverse metabolic processes going on.”

In order to get enough protective phytochemicals daily, the UF researchers concluded that people should try to consume plant-based foods such as leafy greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes at the start of each meal.

Vincent suggests, “Fill your plate with colorful, low-calorie, varied-texture foods derived from plants first. By slowly eating phytochemical-rich foods such as salads with olive oil or fresh-cut fruits before the actual meal, you will likely reduce the overall portion size, fat content and energy intake. In this way, you’re ensuring that you get the variety of protective, disease-fighting phytochemicals you need and controlling caloric intake.”

Could it be that children may develop diabetes during the winter more likely than in the summer months? This sounds crazy, but…

“Scientists believe that variations in blood sugar during colder months or an increased number of infectious diseases during the winter could be partly to blame for the link.”

Research has found that the results from studying 31,000 children treated at 105 centers across 53 countries are positively linked…the seasons and the illness in 42 of these participating centers proved there is a link.

This link between winter months and Type 1 diabetes, the most common form of the disease in children is not new discoveries.

Studies show that clinics treating diabetes that are further away from the equator are more likely to have greater numbers of new cases in winter.

In the journal, ‘Diabetic Medicine’, also suggest that winter cases were more likely to occur among boys and in older children, above the age of five.

“Elena Moltchanova, a statistician at the National Institute for Health and Welfare, in Helsinki, who led the study, said: “Numerous reasons have been suggested for the apparent seasonality of the onset of Type 1 diabetes.

“These include a seasonal variation in people’s levels of blood glucose and insulin, seasonal viral infections, the fact that young people tend to eat more and do less physical activity during winter months and, similarly, that summer holidays provide a rest from school stress and more opportunity to play outdoors.”

Type 1 diabetes develops when the body is unable to produce any insulin and usually appears before the age of 40.

It is distinct from Type 2 diabetes, the more common form, which occurs when the body becomes less sensitive to the hormone.

Don’t forget to eat that grape, blueberry and strawberry!

These berries contain a significant amount of polyphenolic compounds, and polyphenolic compounds are proven to help reduce the motor and cognitive deficits we experience as we age.

Some plant foods and especially these berry fruits have significant antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits. However, polyphenolic compounds can also improve our sensitivity to receptivity in our brains and to improve our motor skills. So, bottom line is; consuming more grapes and berries could actually help protect us against all those dreaded cognitive impairments that come with growing old. (Yuck! It can happen to the best of us! LOL!)

Concord grape juice is a very important addition to our diet along with blueberry and strawberry extracts. Tests have shown that blueberry juice can help us improve memory and learning. So if you want to relieve the possibility of dementia or alzheimer’s disease, try these fruits and drink their juices.

Along with the addition of these fruits and their juices in our diets, we should exercise daily and in general, eat healthy foods rich in nutrients, low in calories, especially the empty calories found in processed and junk foods. The combination of all this will contribute to us enjoying a lifestyle with less of the aging problems that could otherwise effect us in our golden years.

Dieting, health, diets and weightloss are paramount on most people’s hearts and minds these days.

All across the Internet people are talking about loosing weight, and getting thin, healthier bodies. They are commenting and sharing about how they lost fat and shed their unwanted pounds resulting in more health and a must better lifestyle. So, every so often I’ll bring some of their tips to help and encourage you in your personal endeavour to diet and become a new thinner you.

I begin with, a little humor…
Here’s the first tip, but I don’t personally advise you to follow it:
“I lost over 100 pounds of unnecessary weight in just one day. I got a divorce.”

This is a good one:
Chewing gum when you cook so that you don’t keep sampling the food before it’s time to eat.

One dieter was able to shave off a whopping 112 pounds in a little more than a year, in part by heading to the gym for walks after she put her children to bed.

Another dieter says she’s lost weight by making fruit become her favorite dessert.

Another found success by exercising with cable TV fitness shows or lending workout videos at library.

Here’s one way to diet:
This person enjoys red wine but doesn’t go out of control.

More to come soon!
