More helpful tips for reaching your weight loss goal. Hope something here will click to help your dieting efforts and bring you success for a healthy thin body.

Always read the labels on the boxes and bottles in the grocery store. The fine print that gives the nutritional information is so important. Especially check the first four ingredients because they have the highest concentration levels. Also, be especially aware of sugar in any form such as Corn syrup, Dextrose, Fructose, Glucose, High Fructose Corn Syrup (there are several others). These should be avoided as much as possible in high amounts along with high sodium contents.

Another good way of helping you loose weight is to determine not to eat after a certain hour in the evening, like after 7 or 7:30 PM. Eating late in the evening just before going to sleep is bad because your body doesn’t exercise and burn up the calories consumed. It is as if you ate two or three times as much food because it just settles in your stomach, doesn’t get burned off and leaves you with a real bloated feeling in the morning. You’ll also find you are more hungry than you ordinarily would be had you not eaten so late the night before.

Do you tend to reach for food when your emotions start to get the best of you? You think that perhaps a candy bar or some cool ice cream will soothe your stress or emotions and bring calm into your life. Who hasn’t done this? This can be very dangerous because when you eat while emotional, your body does not have to turn off the hunger since eating out of emotions is not tied to actual hunger. Instead, become more active, or read a book, play a game, talk to a friend…train yourself not to react to your emotions by eating.

Now, this may be the craziest one of all…use blue. It is a fact that marketing research has proven. They have a track record of proof that the color blue has an effect on depressing our hunger. So, try using a blue table cloth or blue plates. You may find it will make a difference and with out realizing it you will feel less hungry.

You may think I’m crazy after reading this, BUT…you may also want to try some of these ideas to help you lose weight too. See if they work for you. Then, if you find by using even one suggestion, it’s helped you with your weight loss and helps you get rid if your unwanted fat, then…SUCCESS! It’s all been worth it.

Its a given, we all know that we need to exercise and eat healthy to lose weight. In addition, here are some extra ways others have found success in helping them lose weight to get rid of excess pounds and ugly fat. Some are more unconventional, but if they work, why not. You choose…

Drink 8 glasses of water a day. How? Well, there are several ways you can make your water into a refreshing drink. Try adding a squeeze of lemon and or lime juice to sparkling water. You can get the concentrated juice in bottles at the supermarket or squeeze right from the fruit. A squeeze of juice from a fresh orange can also add zest to your water. Use your imagination and drink up!

You may have always heard that snacking is bad for you and will cause you to gain lots of weight. Well, yes and no. Fat is burned when we eat, but frequent eating of small amounts will increase our metabolism, maintain our blood sugar levels and help our bodies burn the fat. So, snacking can actually be a good thing for us…BUT, we must snack on healthy, low calorie foods.

And speaking of snacking…Everyone knows that fresh, raw vegetables are very healthy for our human bodies. So, providing a platter of cut up fresh raw vegetables to snack on an hour before dinner will not only give us the nutrients we need but will begin to curve our appetite, so by the time dinner is served we will tend to eat less. I also keep raw vegetables washed, cut and ready to eat in the refrigerator for anyone who craves a nice cold snack can come and help themselves.

Soup…yes, a meal of soup can fill you up and you can consume less calories. I often will eat soup for a light dinner with a piece of Light Rye WASA bread. It is very satisfying! I make it myself to insure there is not a lot of salt or fat. I use organic low sodium chicken broth or beef broth. Sometimes I will make a soup with some grated cheese as a treat, or I will add a few tablespoons of Thai Kitchen coconut milk to give it a more creamy texture. These are my treat nights.

Did you know that foods rich in vitamin C are considered fat burners? Evidently vitamin C dilutes the fats in our body, making it easier to flush them out of our system. So oranges, grapefruit, lime, broccoli, carrots and cabbage should be included in your diet for each of these are high in vitamin C.

There are so many claims to the healing powers and other virtues of Turmeric that I thought I would just give a list of what I’ve read other users are saying.

I can’t tell you if all these are real, but many have attributed Turmeric for their healing experience.

It’s completely natural and certainly couldn’t hurt to try it. Some say in order to get the most benefit out of Turmeric we should take it with milk, whereas others are saying using it with oil and pepper is a potent mixture. And in some cases we need to use just the pure powder form to get the results we are looking for.

So, I’ll leave it up to you to try Turmeric for yourselves. Let us know how it has or has not helped you.

Multiple problems affecting our human bodies are treatable with Turmeric:

Its natural anti-inflammatory properties work as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.

It can be used to naturally detox our liver.

Has been used as a natural painkiller.

Good news also is that it may help in weight management by aiding fat to metabolize.

The Chinese use it as a medicine to treat depression.

Has been known to have power to heal bad sinus infections when nothing else previously seemed to work

Seems to be effective to heal colds and sore throats by consuming a hot drink made with Turmeric, milk and black powder.

Other benefits of Turmeric coming in tomorrow’s Blog

Hey there, enough is enough…enough of what? Enough processed and fast foods! “OH NO”, you say, I LOVE my big Macs and Chick Fil-A’s and lunch meats. After all, it’s meat and chicken isn’t it…protein? And, that’s OK for you, isn’t it?

Well, last I heard, researchers are saying, “stay away” from these kinds of food and eat lots of vegetables, fruits and nuts instead. Down the road as you age, you’ll be glad you did. Why? Fruits, vegetables and nuts actually help to prevent or reverse harmful metabolic processes in your body. That translated means they help to guard the human body from diseases.

Plant-based foods have an ingredient called phytochemicals which are what provide the better health for our physical bodies, including helping to keep us thinner. That in itself is good news and reason to change our diet from our old way of eating.

Someone once told me they eat junk food because it’s cheaper. Well, guess what…no way, that’s just an excuse so he/she can remain a child. They will pay down the road and it will be much more expensive for their medical bills!

As a matter of fact, overweight and obese people tend to eat fewer vegetables, fruit and nuts and instead consume far more saturated fats. They don’t give their bodies the advantages of protective trace minerals and phytochemicals found in natural foods to aid in warding off physical diseases and other problems.

Eating less plant-based foods causes higher levels of oxidative stress and inflammation in the body. This on top of being obese or overweight can and will produce physical problems in due time.
Research has found that oxidative stress and inflammation in our bodies are definitely associated with the onset of obesity, heart disease, diabetes and joint disease.

“Diets low in plant-based foods affect health over the course of a long period of time,” Dr. Vincent, a researcher in FL. explained in a statement to the press. “This is related to annual weight gain, inflammation and oxidative stress. Those are the onset processes of disease that debilitate people later in life.”

“People who are obese need more fruits, vegetables, legumes and wholesome unrefined grains,” Vincent said. “In comparison to a normal-weight person, an obese person is always going to be behind the eight ball because there are so many adverse metabolic processes going on.”

In order to get enough protective phytochemicals daily, the UF researchers concluded that people should try to consume plant-based foods such as leafy greens, fruits, vegetables, nuts and legumes at the start of each meal.

Vincent suggests, “Fill your plate with colorful, low-calorie, varied-texture foods derived from plants first. By slowly eating phytochemical-rich foods such as salads with olive oil or fresh-cut fruits before the actual meal, you will likely reduce the overall portion size, fat content and energy intake. In this way, you’re ensuring that you get the variety of protective, disease-fighting phytochemicals you need and controlling caloric intake.”

You don’t have to be overweight to develop asthma…guess what, It’s the “pot belly” effect that can increase the risk of getting asthma and several other dangerous diseases.

Just plain old ‘fat’ stored in strategic areas of our bodies can affect our overall health. Thus the “whereabouts” of fat in our human body is an important issue for our over-all health. And fat stored around the waistline, even in a slim person, can be dangerous.

I think most of us already know that even in people with a normal, healthy weight level, but are carrying lots of stored fat around their abdomen are also more likely to develop heart disease and some forms of cancer than those individuals with a slimmer waist line.

Studying over 100,000 women of all shapes and sizes, researchers found that the obese were twice as likely to develop asthma as their slimmer counterparts.

They also found that the women who had a large waistline even though they were of normal weight, were 37 per cent more likely to develop the disease.

And what is the reason for this? Well, research suggests that too much fat accumulated around the belly causes chemical reactions in the body which can adversely affect health.

Julie Von Behren, from the Northern California Cancer Centre, one of the co-authors of the study, warned that “abdominal obesity” was rising faster than the traditional measurements.

She added: “All measures of obesity were strongly associated with increased asthma prevalence. Even being modestly overweight was associated with higher asthma prevalence in this population.”

A new diet pill using a flavonoid found in grapefruit could be the next break-through hope for the over weight and obese patient.

The chemical compound, Naringenin is this flavonoid found in citrus fruit. Even though Naringenin is what gives that bitter taste to grapefruit, it’s value to the weight loss world is in the fact that it is effective to making the liver burn fat that we’ve eaten instead of storing it. And that is the good news for all of us trying to lose weight. This Naringenin could be used to develop a more natural diet pill without the side effects of the diet pills on the market today! Now, that is good news!

We’ve all been aware that eating grapefruit is recommended as a good way to control weight but this carries it lots further! Just think, maybe a dose of naringenin could not only prevent us from gaining weight but, even help us to lose weight by burning the fat that we eat.

The researchers are testing this compound now and they seem to believe it would not only help obesity sufferers, but it’s been proven to even fight diabetes because they found the process also helped balance insulin and glucose levels.
But, before you go out and buy tons of grapefruit at the grocery store, the tests show for this to work, far greater doses of naringenin is needed than what you can get just by eating grapefruit.

So far, tests on mice have proven that naringenin prevented the mice from suffering obesity, developing the metabolic syndrome that causes their cholesterol to rise and those given naringenin were prevented from their bodies becoming resistant to insulin.

The researchers are now trying to develop this compound into a drug which would be both effective and safe for humans to take as a supplement or treatment for obesity.

Can the MGAT2 enzyme actually prevent obesity, diabetes and heart disease? Is this enzyme a so-called “fat controller”, enabling some people to eat a high calorie diet and not get fat? Could this be the answer to our weight control?

Most of us gain weight if we eat high calorie, fattening foods. Certainly most of us exhibit little or no weight control when eating high fat foods and we can’t even maintain a healthy slim body.

But, it’s been discovered that the MGAT2 enzyme determines how the fat we consume is going to be used by our human bodies…whether to produce energy and burn up, or to be stored around our waist. Could this enzyme actually prevent obesity? Does it really have the key to our weight loss? Is this the key we have been looking for, for thinner, healthier bodies and can it be a key to the prevention of diabetes and heart disease?

Evidently humans and mice both have MGAT2 and MGAT enzymes in their intestines. From test performed in laboratories on mice, scientists and researchers are saying that if they use drugs to eliminate the activity of this MGAT enzyme in humans, it could prove to be a way of fighting obesity. Why? Because the mice were able to eat a high fat diet without getting fat or gaining weight.

Also these same mice were protected against intolerance to glucose that is often followed by diabetes, high cholesterol and a build up of fat in liver cells. It’s well known that enzymes are essential for many biological functions. This could be a wonderful discovery for healthier, slimmer bodies.

It is thought to be that the human body still behaves as it did many thousands of years ago when food was more scarce. It would store excess fat to be used by the body later in leaner, dry times when food was hard to come by. I’ve seen this process in the peoples living off the animals in the Kalahari dessert even today. Excess fat is stored in their buttocks when it’s the rainy season and the animals are plenty gathering around the watering holes. During the dry season, the animals migrate away in search of water and the people have less food to eat, so their bodies start to consume that fat that has been stored. Their buttocks shrink as the fat is expended for energy.

Today the excess calories eaten are still stored away as fat to help in leaner times, but today the leaner times never come and the fat just builds up. MGAT enzymes appear to play an important role in this energy storage process.

Obesity is a growing dilemma and anything that can help eliminate the problem is of tremendous importance. So, if using a fat to fight fat kind of diet works, lets go for it!

Already in three different countries, scientists have tested this theory in laboratories using mice. They have all said that the results have been amazing!

What are we looking at here, a miracle cure for obesity? Well, not exactly. They still advocate exercise because exercise ” exercise is essential for good health. It improves circulation and therefore strengthens our heart and lung function. And, at the same time exercise enables our bodies to release several hormones that give us a sense of wellbeing.”

Ok, I can agree with that. However obesity levels are growing every year, and so have levels of physical activity. Exercise doesn’t seem to be working on it’s own to reduce weight. It just doesn’t seem to be the most effective way of burning calories.

So, the scientists are experimenting using fat to eliminate fat. It’s only lately that they have changed their thoughts of fat being just a tissue to store energy in the body until we need it. Years ago our bodies stored this excess energy in fat cells so when food was scarce the human body could draw from the fat cells to produce energy. (I look at it like a cactus in the dessert storing water in the rainy season to use during the dry times) With all the food available to us today, we sure don’t need this storage now. So, we just build up the fat layer after layer.

While belly fat can be harmful, subcutaneous, or peripheral fat, found beneath the skin of the hips and thighs works to protect us. “If we can reprogramme the fat so that it produces less bad effects, it could get rid of some of the metabolic consequences of obesity,” says Prof Ronald Kahn, head of obesity research at Harvard Medical School’s Joslin Diabetes Centre.

Prof Kahn has found it is possible to transplant peripheral fat into the abdominal area, and so reduce the risk of developing obesity-related diseases in rats. It may be possible to “re-program” belly fat so that it behaves more like subcutaneous fat. And even though people would still be fat, they would at least be healthier.

However, an even better discovery, in my thinking, is that humans have deposits of brown adipose tissue, or brown fat, and unlike white fat, brown fat burns energy rather than stores it. And it burns a lot of energy.
While adults have very little brown fat, we do have tiny deposits around our necks. “As little as two ounces of brown fat can burn up 400 to 500 calories a day,” says Prof Kahn, who is among the scientists leading research into brown fat. “It’s very hard to burn off that much with exercise. A little bit more active brown fat can be very beneficial for helping to keep weight down.”
Scientists now believe that activating brown fat stores in obese patients – and even increasing their levels of brown fat – could help them to keep their weight down.

Prof Kahn has also discovered that a growth factor called BMP-7 can be used to turn stem cells into brown fat. When this was transplanted into mice, the tissue formed discrete islands of brown fat. The team now plans to use the approach on fat from humans.

“If we treat fat that has been removed by liposuction to convert it into brown fat, we could then put it back into patients,” says Prof Kahn. “If you combined this with improved diet and exercise, the effect could be dramatic.”
