Calcium and Magnesium are both minerals that are alkaline and are important contributions to keeping our systems well balanced.

Also Alkalinizing Powders specially formulated to maintain pH balance and can be a real help if you tend to consume too few fruits and vegetables. These powders are made from whole foods and herbs that encourage the body to release acid salts and heavy metals, and they are usually lightly flavored with vanilla so they can be mixed with pure neutral water.

Many green supplements are offered out there on the market that are highly alkaline and really do a great job at maintaining the pH balance. These are especially helpful if you are unable to eat leafy greens like spinach and romaine every day.

We all know and understand that our metabolism is increased by movement, mostly in the form of exercise.

The chemistry of these human bodies is positively affected by activity of the muscles. And that’s why we are becoming exercise addicts. However, this is good because it is important for the body to burn fatty acids as well as other acids, which happens when we exercise. And this is one way we maintain a healthy body.

Now, we can overdo it with too much or too intense activity and that can cause a build-up of lactic acid and other acids in the muscles. How many of us have experienced sore muscles after of day of intensive exercise? It’s because of this acid build up in our muscles.

It is suggested to take a day off between heavier workouts. This gives the muscles a chance to clear out the acid to avoid the negative effects of a workout that’s very intense. Another cure for this soreness is to drink an alkalinizing powder drink on a daily basis.

That’s a fact. We need to understand that the acidic effects of cigarettes are way underestimated.

Nicotine stimulates the body to secrete various acids including gastric acid in the stomach. When the body is dehydrated it becomes overly acidic and this is significant considering the fact that nicotine causes the body to excrete fluids thus causing varying degrees of dehydration. And as the body becomes more dehydrated, more acids are secreted to compensate.

Most of us don’t realize that the correct pH level is very important for every aspect of our health even down to the most elemental part of our being.

A correct pH level affects our mental outlook, metabolism, organs, tissues, cells, molecules, atoms and chromosomes.

It is a known fact that our bodies react to situations that cause stress in our lives. We need to educate ourselves about how stress can affect our body.

I’ve learned that the human body produces acid when it’s under stress. And this can put a strain on the body if stress becomes chronic.

Another problem is that if stress becomes intensified, often we will turn to damaging habits to try to ease the pain and that can actually amplify the problem of acidity in our bodies. Some of these symptoms include smoking, drinking too much alcohol and overeating all the so-called “comfort foods” that are bad for us.

There are several factors that can cause our pH level to drop.

One of the first factors is poor nutrition. If we choose the wrong foods to eat, we can change our acidity readings that should be more alkaline with the right food choices. By changing our diet we can reverse this factor and it will make us feel much better.

Foods that contribute to increased acid buildup in our bodies and can cause health issues down the road are the processed meats such as bacon, sausage, lunchmeat, smoked meats. Then there are other foods and drinks that should be taken in moderation or avoided when you can such as fried foods, cheese, sugar, chocolate and then coffee and alcohol have to be included on this list. These all heavily contribute to an acidic environment in our human body.

Then on the good side there are many alkalinizing foods that can work to our benefit, improve our health and make us feel better. These choices include apples, grapes, melons, bananas, most vegetables and leafy greens.

Remember, it’s not necessary to avoid acid-producing foods entirely; wisdom says to just make sure you balance the acid producing foods you eat with some foods from the group that create alkalinity. Having a salad and/or some fruit with your meal can definitely make a difference.

I really haven’t had a thorough understanding of what PH means. So, when I found this article I thought if you are like me, and want to understand PH that perhaps this might help.

“The designation pH stands for “potential of hydrogen” and it refers to the measure of alkalinity or acidity of a solution based on the number of hydrogen ions in the liquid. The more hydrogen ions present, the more acidic the solution. The scale is numbered from 0 to 14 and a solution that is neutral measures a 7. A reading below 7 is acidic, and above is alkaline. Many of the body’s fluids including blood, pancreatic juice, bile, saliva and even seminal fluid are alkaline and must remain so for health to prosper. On the other hand, gastric juices secreted in the stomach like hydrochloric acid are highly acidic, measuring in at around a 2 on the pH scale.”

In a future article I’ll explain more on “PH” for us.
