Obesity can lead to high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol and problems with the body’s ability to use insulin. This condition, called metabolic syndrome, can lead to a higher risk for a heart attack, a stroke and other diseases.
Metabolic syndrome is often found in obese patients. However, there is a bit of good news, a natural help for this condition can be found in the root extracts from the Kudzu vine. Kudzu root extracts show promise as a dietary supplement for metabolic syndrome.
What does Kudzu have that is so helpful for these conditions? Kudzu contains the isoflavones daidzin and daidzein.
The Kudzu vine comes from Asia where for hundreds of years it has been traditionally used to help diminish the desire for alcohol while also helping to support blood pressure and circulation in the muscles of the heart.
For centuries Kudzu supplements have been used as a health food by the Chinese and Japanese people.
Researchers found that after two months of taking the extract, rats had lower cholesterol, lower blood pressure, lower blood sugar and lower insulin levels than did a control group not given the extract.
Kudzu root “may provide a dietary supplement that significantly decreases the risk and severity of stroke and cardiovascular disease in at-risk individuals,” the researchers say in a statement.
