Stop feeling guilty about that second cup of coffee in the morning (or that third) and forget the all the rumors you’ve heard about drinking coffee.
Why? Because coffee is probably the most popular beverage in the world, there are bound to be many controversies surrounding the benefits of drinking it. However, the latest studies on coffee reveal that there are actually several health benefits that can be derived from drinking coffee.
In these studies, coffee has been found to have a beneficial effect on reducing the risk for type 2 diabetes, colon cancer, and Parkinson’s disease. Coffee has also been shown to lift your mood and even treat headaches. Did you know that coffee may even lower your risk for dental cavities? A wild thought? Read on…
Harvard University has been studying coffee for over 18 years and conducted studies on some 126,000 individuals. What these studies show is that by drinking six cups of coffee or more each day, males can reduce their risk for type 2 diabetes by as much as 54% and females who drink that much can reduce their risk for type 2 diabetes by as much as 30%.
According to research at Vanderbilt University, coffee in general, is far more healthful than it is harmful to humans. These same studies have indicated that 80% of participants showed a less likely chance to develop Parkinson’s and the more they drank the lower their risk factor for the disease became. Other coffee studies revealed that drinking at least two cups of coffee a day could significantly reduce the risk for colon cancer, liver cirrhosis, and the risk for gallstones. Amazingly some studies even showed that coffee can reduce the harm that bad habits such as smoking or drinking has on the liver. Coffee studies also show that there may be benefits to those with asthma when they drink coffee. Those who suffer from headaches may see a reduction in their headaches when they drink coffee on a regular basis.
How can these amazing health benefits be true regarding coffee? Perhaps the answer is in the fact that there are antioxidants in coffee beans that can become more potent during the roasting process. Some of these reports on the health benefits of drinking coffee may also stem from the presence of higher amounts of caffeine in coffee. There are approximately 85 mg of caffeine in an eight ounce cup of coffee which is about three times the amount of caffeine that is contained in your average cup of tea or hot chocolate.
The health benefits of coffee are so recognized by the medical community that no Parkinson’s drugs are developed, without containing a derivative of caffeine.
Did you know that a single dose of the popular Anacin or Excedrin pain relievers could contain up to 120 mg of caffeine? That same amount of caffeine can be found in about 2 cups of coffee!
So, if you are a coffee drinker, rejoice! You can drink your favorite cup of Joe and not feel guilty.
